Madikwe Game Reserve is situated in the North West Province and is bordered by Botswana in the north, the Dwarsberg Mountains to the south, and the Marico River to the east. The diverse habitat in the reserve, from acacia savannah to riverine, ensures a unique combination of species, including wild dog, cheetah, lion, white and black rhino, buffalo and elephant.

The birdlife is spectacular and it is also one of the few reserves in South Africa that is malaria free.

With the inception of "Operation Phoenix" which began in 1993, more than 8,000 heads of game were brought into the park over a six year period. The government-sponsored programme involved re-stocking and conserving flora and wildlife, which had disappeared from the region, and its huge success has ensured excellent game viewing. In 1996, predators were introduced in Madikwe, first cheetahs, wild dogs and hyenas, later also lions from the Etosha National Park (Namibia) and the neighbouring Pilanesberg National Park. 180 elephants came from the Gonarezhou Game Reserve in Zimbabwe which had been hit by a disastrous drought. The resettlement of the elephants was a great success and their population in Madikwe has grown to 250 animals.

The surrounding local communities also benefit from the reserve as they receive an annual share of the park's profits and so are able to upgrade their own infrastructure.

Jaci’s Safari Lodge:

Situated in an ideal spot, Jaci's Safari Lodge overlooks an established waterhole that is well used by many of the 27 species of game and 340 species of birds found here.

Jaci's main lodge is open plan and curved around a huge termite mound. It is decorated with Jaci's outrageous flair, incorporating colour and African artefacts in a novel way. The charming bedrooms are a mixture of stone and canvas with huge tented windows and a cool thatched roof. Each en-suite bathroom contains a twosome 'rock bath' and outdoor 'safari shower'.

Each room has a ceramic fireplace for cosy winter evenings and an open plan en-suite bathroom. The African hand made 'rock bath' in each room is enormous and they recommend - in the name of water conservation - that the bath is best enjoyed together! Outdoor safari showers are another unique feature of the very personal and individually decorated rooms.

The exceptional thatch and canvas 'Nare Suite' is an exclusive bush breakaway, featuring two en-suite bedrooms, a small-equipped kitchen and living area. A wooden viewing deck encompasses a small rock pool with an outstanding view over an active game water hole.

Expect to see a wide variety of game and many different species of birds. Game drives daily in the mornings and evenings or walks with knowledgeable and experienced guides are part of Jaci's Safari Lodge African experience.

Children of all ages are welcome and the 'littles' have their own daytime 'Jungle Drive'. Baby-sitting is provided while parents are on game drives or enjoying their evening meal.

Impodimo:

Impodimo Game Lodge is set along a rocky ridge commanding stunning vistas of the reserve. It is also located at the source of a natural spring, which provides the lodge with elevated views as well as riverine serenity. The lodge offers dawn and dusk safaris. The safaris are carefully timed to ensure optimal seasonal comfort.
Whilst Impodimo has 10 suites, its capacity is 16 guests, each of the suites have been carefully positioned to ensure absolute privacy. Spacious in design, each includes a closed system fireplace, climate control air conditioner, mini bar fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and full en-suite bathroom and outside shower. Your private deck allows uninterrupted views of the Madikwe Game Reserve.

The owner / manager team of Steve and Debbie are ideally suited to tailoring the most memorable safari experience, Whilst Steve is a highly qualified expert ranger, and Debbie adds impressive culinary qualifications to the team.
The team has gone to great lengths to ensure that guests have as much choice as possible in enjoying their experience, for example, 7-seater Landrovers are used instead of the traditional 10 seater type. Impodimo is the first lodge in Madikwe Game Reserve to have qualified Shangaan trackers as part of the team. This adds a different dimension to the safari experience ensuring consistent big game sightings.
With fewer guests on Landrovers the team encourages guests to maximise optimal game viewing times, for example this may include a full day safari in winter with a picnic lunch stop.

Lynne, Australia
What a great holiday we had.  South Africa is a beautiful country.  We loved Cape Town.  All the tours were wonderful but I particularly enjoyed going to the top of Table Mountain, (the day was lovely and clear and the ocean was so calm), and going to Hermanus.  What a lovely town and the drive there was spectacular…  We had seafood and it was very, very good…. One thing I liked was that there was music everywhere with people singing or playing instruments in the street.  It was very nice. I bought a couple of CDs of African music home with me.  Anyway, thanks again for organising the tours for us.  We loved our stay in your country.
